The founder of Psychodrama was Jacob Levy Moreno, a Romanian psychiatrist and contemporary of Freud. Two of the important aspects of Moreno’s work are his role theory and theory of spontaneity. In his role theory he invites us to consider ourselves as role holders, as if taking part in a play or a drama; he suggests that our roles are primary to the development of the self.
