About Bridget’s Practice.

I think it is important to find the right counsellor for you and what you want from therapy.  I believe there are three main types of therapy. Behavioural psychology ( cognitive behavioural ) psychoanalysis ( psychodynamic ) and humanistic psychology ( person-centred ).  I trained as a humanistic counsellor at the  University of Chichester, under the University of Southampton in ( 1999 ) My reason for training in the first place was to be able to offer support to parents of children with special needs. I worked for 19 years with parents and children as a Home Portage Visitor, for a service called Portage. During my work with Portage and working alongside the families, I learned to utilise my training as a humanistic counsellor, by  taking in the whole being and looking at the person in a holistic light. By this I mean not trying to fit the person into a theory.  In humanistic counselling we look at trying to help the client reach fulfilment and growth, to move towards a clearer less problematic sense of self, in a confidential open minded  human way.

Other experience in counselling comes from working with Off The Record and running a group  for parents/carers of children with special needs.
